CAITHNESS STONEWARE, Contemporary collectable stone clocks.

Dunnet

Caithness, Scotland’s most northerly county is often referred to as the “lowland” beyond the highlands, a land of big skies and great expansive open views, of rugged cliff faces and unspoilt beaches, rich in its diversity of wildlife and with a history of Picts, Vikings, Earls, Castles, Battles, Harbours, Herring, Farms, and Flagstone.
Once part of the great Scandinavian empire stretching across northern Europe and as far as North America, this unique land,  lies at the northern most tip of the british mainland.

It is with the formerly mentioned flagstone, and the inspiration of its surroundings that we have come to offer this lovely and handcrafted product range of Caithness stoneware.  From the late 1700’s this ancient stone was exported all over the world, many of the streets of London, Sydney, Edinburgh & the financial district of New York City are paved with it and early settlers of the new world found that the streets of Boston were not paved with gold as they had been told, but with Caithness flagstone.

We are the manufacturer of Caithness Stoneware which includes our unique range of contemporary stone clocks and coasters. These hand crafted products are all unique, no two items are ever the same, with varying thicknesses and finishes, some a lighter shade, some darker, occasionally some marking where lichen once grew on its surface. Some of the surfaces have been exposed for upwards of 200 years since initial quarrying, some were exposed yesterday during the making of these hand crafted items.
